National Grid has had assistance today in restoring power to customers, with a number of trucks staged in the parking lots of Veterans Memorial Drive stores.
The company’s Power Outage Map shows fewer than five outages in Batavia and Elba, and two outages in a few other spots in Genesee County.
“Sometimes we stage large numbers of trucks in large lots because we didn’t have enough room at our office/barn location on East Main Street in Batavia,” said David Bertola of National Grid Corporate Affairs.
“So they were staged there to work with us to address Batavia-area outages. We’ve been out there all day to restore electricity service to Batavia customers and those in neighboring regions.”
Bertola said he didn’t have the number of trucks in those parking lots, but said National Grid called upon many companies for assistance.
“When they arrived, they brought with them whatever they felt was necessary and/or could bring with them. We’re grateful for the partnerships with so many companies and the assistance that they were able to provide to help us restore electricity to our customers,” he said. “There were outages around the area and throughout the day we were still finishing work related to them. This includes replacing damaged power poles that had fully-functioning power lines. After they are finished assisting with work related to GLOW-region outages, they likely will move to Western New York and Buffalo, where we still have around 15,000 customers without service.”
