BATAVIA — Close, but no cigar for the Batavia girls on Friday night, as the Blue Devils fell, 58-47 to a merged Greece Thunder team, consisting of athletes from Greece Athena and Greece Odyssey. Tiara Smith led all scorers for Greece, while Asia Phillips finished with 14 points.
Batavia seized an early lead at 11-9 at the end of the first quarter, but Greece came back to tie the game going into halftime. The Thunder went ahead 35-32 at the end of three, and then outscored Batavia 23-15 in the final frame to seal the double digit win.
Anna Varland led Batavia with 17 points, while Isabella Walsh contributed with 12 points. Jaimin Macdonald filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, nine rebounds, five steals and five assists. The banged-up Blue Devils are now 0-4.
