Today, I’ll be addressing you for the first time as the new Regional Sports Editor of the Batavia Daily News and Livingston County News. After serving as a reporter, amongst various other roles at the newspapers, I recently accepted a promotion, something I’ve been working toward since I began my journalistic journey years ago with my sports blog, Batavia’s Best.
During my days at Batavia’s Best, I learned a lot in terms of how to organize content and distribute it in the most effective way possible, and I believe I have only improved in those elements of my job throughout my time at The News. Moving forward in my new role, I hope to further my understanding of the modern media landscape while continuing to provide our readers, viewers and listeners with the most up-to-date, current coverage that the Western New York area has seen in quite some time.
Over the years, media corporations are slowly becoming less and less of what they once were — titans of industry — and we at the Batavia Daily News have also felt the impact of the ever-changing landscape over the years. We have not escaped layoffs, nor have we escaped cost-cutting measures that have become commonplace within the media realm and other industries throughout the business world.
With that said, one thing that hasn’t changed at The Daily News is our desire to provide our readers, viewers and listeners with the best coverage that we’re capable of providing. All of us at The News work extensive hours and go above and beyond to ensure our readers, viewers and listeners, oftentimes reaching beyond our means to complete a story or feature in hopes of best serving those who follow along with our work.
We take great pride in the coverage we provide and believe our work is well worth the cost of admission, as they say.

Moving forward, The Daily News sports department has big plans, including continuous coverage of winter sports — featuring season previews, nightly roundups, livestreams, podcasts and stories featuring all of our local athletes — along with increased coverage of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, which have not been a centerpiece of our coverage in the past.
As we move into the future, the Bills’ and Sabres’ popularity continues to grow at a rapid rate, and we will be along for the ride as each team makes a push for its first-ever world championship. The Daily News is one of the few Western New York media outlets to be credentialed with both the Bills and Sabres, and we will continue to ramp up our coverage while increasing our inside access to both teams.
Also, while in the past we have not provided the most consistent coverage for all 28 teams that fall within our coverage area, The Daily News sports staff will be working to increase our involvement within Orleans County while continuing to provide the best high school sports coverage Livingston, Genesee and Wyoming Counties have to offer.
Lastly, I would like to thank all who have supported The News over the years, as it’s been an honor to tell the stories of all of our great athletes and GLOW region citizens. Also, I would like to thank The Daily News management and the Johnson Newspaper Corporation for providing me with an opportunity to take our coverage to the next level.
