A Meekatharra woman accused of violently attacking her partner for the second time in just five months has been denied bail.
Frances Anne Starr appeared from custody in Geraldton Magistrates Court on charges of unlawful wounding with a circumstance of aggravation and breach of protective bail conditions.
Ms Starr was previously charged with unlawful wounding on the same victim back in June, to which she has pleaded not guilty, after allegedly stabbing Norman Gilbert during a domestic dispute at the Batavia Motor Inne.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Paul Birkinshaw alleges the pair began verbally arguing about 1.25pm on December 12 at Queens Park before Ms Starr threatened Mr Gilbert with a glass bottle.
She allegedly began swinging the glass bottle at her partner and as he tried to defend himself from her it struck him in the arm, causing a deep laceration, which required medical treatment.
Police were called to the location, Ms Starr was arrested and later charged. Mr Gilbert was taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital for treatment and later released from the hospital.
In making an application for bail, Ms Starr’s lawyer said she had ongoing matters for her one-year-old son which she needed to attend in the community.
The court was told Ms Starr had been in a relationship with Mr Gilbert for six to seven years and suffered significant domestic violence throughout. The pair’s relationship has now ended after this alleged incident.
The 29-year-old woman’s lawyer also stated Ms Starr was currently pregnant and undertaking pre-birth safety planning through the Department of Communities.
Sgt Burkinshaw said they opposed the application as Ms Starr had already been on bail for an alleged unlawful wounding previously.
In this instance, police allege the couple had been squatting at the abandoned hotel when an argument between them escalated, with her partner dragging Ms Starr along the ground by her hair.
Ms Starr then allegedly used a shard of a broken plate to stab her partner in the head, back and chest up to five times.
Magistrate Angus Hockton said Ms Starr had a history of breaching protective bail, citing two examples in June.
“I’m not going to grant you bail, there is real risk you will commit new offences,” Mr Hockton said.
Ms Starr will reappear in Geraldton Magistrates Court on December 19 for legal advice.
